the end is near

I am nearing the eleventh hour of finals and I literally have no more energy to give.  I am sleep deprived and exhausted of all inspiration, not to mention a 6,000 word paper due in 5 hours.  But, its all rather bitter sweet.  The reality is I really enjoyed my professors and the end of the quarter means the end of hearing their wonderful stories and bits of wisdom.  But with the end of the quarter comes the start of a whole new quarter and, its weird, but I'm so excited to start a whole new cycle of sleep depravation! I can't wait for Advanced Fashion Sketching, for some reason its the defining class for junior designers. Oh, and finished my final dress in Apparel I finally.  Can't wait to play photo shoot with at home with my photographer lady friend.  Hope to get those up here soon, along with some sketches.

p.s. Texas here I cooooooooome. :)

Dear November,

I currently have a bone to pick with you.  Just because it is your month doesn't mean we have to yank down the christmas decor just yet.  Its only November, and already I feel that Christmas is being shoved in our face.  Maybe this is me trying to hold on to sunnier days, but I think we've got plenty of time till we start singing "deck the halls."  Where is a true fall season when you need it?!?  Grrrr Oh well, at least this dreary cold weather puts me in an all work, no play kind of mood, which is exactly what I need this time of year.  For now, I'll leave you with Margiela Haute Couture A/W 2011.

I'm currently obsessed with this all in one pant/boot combination.  FABULOUS.

Halston and his Halstonettes

Yesterday I had the opportunity to view an amazing documentary at the Savannah Film Festival, on Halston.  I knew of the designer, but had never really studied his garments or knew much about him.  The documentary was an eye opening experience, with lots of laughter wedged in, (provided by none other than Andre Leon Talley).  It talked about how he was the first to introduce true minimalism and forever changed the way American women dressed.  Chado Ralph Rucci, who worked under him, even went on about how he once laid a piece of fabric on the ground and just by looking at it,  cut it and wrapped it around a woman, creating a dress that had the most beautiful movement ever seen.  He dressed women like Jackie Kennedy, Angelica Huston, and Liza Minelli.
He was involved in the creation of Studio 54, and hung out with people like Andy Warhol and Victor Hugo.  They worked hard and played hard.  But eventually drugs and, sadly, AIDS got the best of him. He died in 1990 of AIDS related cancer.  Even after all the controversy and eventually losing the rights to his company, we can say...
yes, the seventies belonged to Halston.
