black rock city nostalgia

Looking through some old photos the other day and ran across some from Burning Man, these were taken by my friend Milena, who we camped with (for some reason my camera did not adjust well to dust storms).  Just some of my favorite moments and art projects from 2009.  I often miss camp life, its like living on another planet for a week with a group of gypsies and ramblers.  Hopefully, I'll be making a trip back out to the black rock desert this summer.  There's nothing like making a 30 hour drive, to the most desolate place on earth to help you find yourself.

shiny, shimmer, glitter fest

Its not indian printed, nor does it involve fringe in anyway, but I'm in love with this clothing.  Its hard to pinpoint my particular style sometimes, because I've always had sort of a messy-bohemian-homeless-person way of dressing.  Lately, however I've noticed that I'm becoming a more polished version of my self.  Its hard being a fashion major and being trained to swoon over established luxury designers on style.com, when so much as the nearest goodwill sends your heart into rapid flutters!  Don't get me wrong there are designers I'm constantly obsessed with, but no matter what I'll always be that girl who finds an obnoxious blazer from the 70s and begins to drool.  In addition to everything that can be found in your nearest desert, I'm also loving minimalism right now and anything overly soft and flowy.  So here's to trying new things and brushing our hair.

p.s. those purple pants are KILLING it.

lamp shades and lace

I started yesterday off by soaking up some of the sun's healing rays with the boy.  His family has a little cottage outside of town, set on the most serene piece of land.  It felt so nice to lay by the pool milking my last bit of spring break for some much needed relaxation.  After a couple hours we decided to travel about 5 miles down the road to the annual, Round Top/Warrenton Antique Week.  Usually I'm in school, but this time I was lucky enough to catch the opening weekend.  Morgan's mother always has a booth for her boutique and while paying her a visit I decided to photograph a few of my favorite spots.

The antique fair is food for my soul, one of my most favorite things.  Its located in the middle of nowhere, Texas (Round Top has a population of 75 people) and the tents spread as far as the eye can see.  You can find anything and everything: there's clothing, shoes, antiques, jewelry, and trash galore.  There's high end belgian antiques right down to junk thats been gathered at garage sales.  Its a harmony of kettle corn, lemonade, gypsies, peddlers, and cowboys and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I kept it cool, in a breezy Anthropologie tank, forever 21 brown linen shorts, and Gee WaWa boots.  Ironically, I'm now in a 30 degree Philadelphia and I'm longing to head back to warmer weather.  Dreaming of my next stop:  sunny Savannah.  Until then, I'm about to get really creative with layers.

go with the flow

Just a lineup of every single flowy, overly feminine top that I want to own right now.  I'm also craving everything in muted tones, even though a brightly colored summer season is approaching.  Also, thought I'd put up some of my "balenciaga/tea party on acid" inspired collection I did for class.  These are just the croquis so there's no color, which is insanely boring so forgive me.
Tomorrow is my last day at home and then I'm off to Philadelphia and then school, although I can't say I'm thrilled about leaving. I feel like I haven't had enough time at home.  But life goes on and I shall slide back into the ole routine in no time at all.  Cheers to tea cups and flowy button-ups.

the clubhouse

Cameron and I decided to play dress up in our backyard yesterday. It was quite fun to go up to the old clubhouse my dad built for us, and have a look around.  I was channeling some sort of Pink Floyd, rock n' roll influence that has been in my brain lately.

I feel so carefree, now that I have finished my finals, gone to New Orleans and finally made it back home for one last moment of relaxation before I have to head back to Savannah and start the madness all over again.  Its a lovely feeling to come back to my home, my friends, and my family after being away for what seems like so long.  It makes me appreciate every moment I have in this little town I call home.  For now, I think I'll spend the rest of my days in the clubhouse.

bullets on my boots

Took these while galavanting around Bull Street and 40th.  There's a funky little supermarket across the street, with an old school logo painted on the wall.  Originally, the musketeers and I had planned on photographing that, but when there's a gathering of questionable characters nearby...its best to keep your distance.  I have a feeling I've got lots of awkward moments ahead of me, seeing as how all the inspiring places I like to wander about, involve the ghetto.  Psyching myself up for when I throw platforms into the mix...that ought to be interesting.

The jacket was discovered at goodwill and the magical boots are free people.  I love pairing this silky t-shirt with my grungy cut-offs.  It sort of reminds me of Savannah and its contrast of art school kids, charming southerners, and ethnic influences.  They all combine to create a mix that suits this hauntingly old city quite well.  For now, its back to work...here's to Paula Deen and bullets on my boots.

hello tuesday...

My favorite bracelet, some collage type things I've been into lately, and Magritte's Son of Man that I thought fit nicely into the group.  Just wanted to give a shout out this blog I've been smitten with lately, Miss Moss.  I mostly love it for its many great random images and the way it provokes ideas from the clouded mess, that is my mind.  Even though her content ranges from old yearbook photos, collection looks, or even classic paintings...it all embodies her whimsical, fresh aesthetic, that I just can't seem to get enough of.

golden

Dreaming of golden sunlight and summer right now.  Somehow this album is my staple when working late nights at the fashion building.  It makes drafting patterns so much more enjoyable.  I'm craving anything transparent and flowy right now.  Planning on thrifting some this week, and I can't wait to see what finds me.
