blueberry sunday

Almost every weekend my good friend Chelsey and I escape the city and go on mini adventures.  This weekend it happened to be blueberry picking in New Jersey.  The lovely thing about Philadelphia is you can drive about 30 minutes outside the bustling city and then be in a sleepy little town.  It kind of reminds me of home in that way, which is probably why I enjoy it so much.  We made our way to Pemberton, New Jersey to a blueberry field, where you pick how ever many pounds of blueberries your heart desires and leave the money in a box in the barn.  My kind of place.  The entire field of blueberry bushes were completely surrounded by trees creating a sheltered little world with a white wooden farmhouse nestled in the corner by the road.  For about an hour, while we explored the field, I did something so simple and menial.  Sometimes that is just what the mind and heart need.

brown sugar summer

Stumbled on the most incredible vintage pictures of the Rolling Stones, lounging poolside lounging poolside in Savannah, Georgia circa 1965.  The crazy thing is, they are actually at a motel pool that's now home to a majority of SCAD dorms.  How incredible is it that the Rolling Stones hung out at the pool that was right outside my college dorm room all of sophomore year??

I love their boyish expressions captured in these photos.  They seem so young and fresh-faced, not yet hardened by years of living on tour buses and playing countless shows.

to the desert we go pt. 1

Finally putting up the photos from my favorite day of the entire California adventure that I took for the long independence day weekend.  The desert is high on the list of things that I love, so we headed Palm Springs and Joshua Tree National Park for the day to explore.  As you drive into the park, you slowly start to leave civilization behind and it's stunning rock formations, and vast stillness start to overcome you.  At any moment I could stand amongst the Joshua tree's, with millions of year old rocks surrounding me, experiencing a quiet unlike any other and somehow be scared and inspired all at the same time.  There's something about just how still and boundless the desert is.  It makes me nervous, but in a wonderful way; it's one of nature's mysteries that I will never quite understand but will always stand in awe.

Although we didn't spend as much time in Palm Springs, it was a fun little detour.  We had lunch at the Ace Hotel's restaurant.  The building itself is a renovated old school Denny's, and the menu follows suit with an elevated take on classic diner food.  Lunch was followed by a walk down the strip and of course a snow cone.

I've already started planning my next adventure, California see you soon...

the best coast

Memories from my first day on the west coast.  Somehow southern california brings out every boho fiber in my being, and all I wanted to wear was drippy oversized everything.  This idea sort of contrasted with my most recently acquired shoes, which I just now realized are a carbon copy of the shoes I wore for easter sunday when I was 8, but I'm completely ok with that.
